ABOUT

BRUECKEN is an Oldenburg based band from northern germany, playing atmoshperic, instrumental music.

In may 2016 the project was created under the influence of bands like envy, FJØRT, The Tidal Sleep and- Thrice to deliver a dark and atmospheric rendition of Post-Hardcore. Quickly a five song self-titled EP was published by the band themselves in may 2017 and was generaly well recieved (e.g. „demo of the month“ VISIONS). With the addition of David Barteczko, who had made a name for himself in the vibrant Oldenburg scene as a progressive guitar player through his involvement in acts like mosaikh or CMD RKR, they embarked onto the first few concerts and a small tour through germany and european vincinity.

The momentum of the project got stopped cold when in december 2017 singer and bassplayer Jan Wiethölter died. The band took their time to grieve and work through the loss but arrived at the decision not to end the project. A new direction and drive was found when seasoned bass-player Jens Niehoff (Black Everest / They Sleep We Live / Suffocate For Fuck Sake) joined the band. Together the fourpiece reworked existing fragments, explored new sounds, added layers and shaped a new concept for BRUECKEN. This included the decision to continue as an instrumental outlet, to pour emotions into sound without relying on a lyrical layer but also consciously leave some blank spots for the listeners to fill in for themselves.

Mid 2019 drummer Florian Alemi joined the band, while founding-member Claudius Mertins had to step back from the set, while he kept and keeps on supporting the band in visual questions. With the new, now stable formation a few concerts of varying size could be played all across germany. This included a small Tour with labelmates RIAH from Italy and headlining a Releasshow in their hometown in front of a 200+ audience.

But then the pandemic hit and a lot of the already formed plans for bigger live appearances incl. a few festivals for the band got put on pause. BRUECKEN focused on collecting new material instead. The band managed to bring new and old ideas into promising shapes from the distance of their own living rooms, which are now located in four different german cities. So in June 2021 they once again sought the cooperation with Fabian Schulz and produced 6 new songs at Sunsetter Studio, Bremen. The result broadens the BRUECKEN-sound through experiments with samples and layers of synthezisers. The record title „INNERE UNRUHEN“ presents the band more refined and detailed: A result of them deciding against recording live for the first time and producing the album track-by-track.

„INNERE UNRUHEN“ documents a clear progression of the bands distinctive sound, but still delivers enough references to their musical roots and the striking rough edge and punk-energy of the previous releases.

BRUECKEN would like to thank everyone at moment of collapse records for their trust and ongoing support.
